How to Tone Muscle with Bodybuilding |
Bodybuilders often talk about how to tone muscle and do exercises in their weight lifting routine that tone their muscles.
The fact is, the way to tone muscle is by building muscle and then toning the body through diet and exercise, reducing body fat to show muscle tone. You can’t really tone muscle, but you can build muscle and let it show. This is what most people mean by toning muscle.
“So to tone muscle I really need to lose fat?” Yes, that’s it. You should work on both building muscle and reducing your body’s extra layer of fat, simultaneously. This is how you tone muscle. What you are really doing is showing off that you’re building muscle, by reducing the fat covering those muscles.
To get a toned body, you need to have the muscles to show off. Building muscle, of course, means lifting weights. How can you improve your weight lifting routine so you’re building muscle quickly, and what can you do to reduce the fat layer so you show a toned body? After all, what is the point of building muscle if you can’t show it off? This is why we want to tone muscle.
First, lifting weights is an excellent way to tone muscle, or rather build muscle, and you can start building muscle more quickly by doing compound exercises which work multiple muscle groups at one time. Examples of good exercises for building muscle include the squat, military press, dead lift, bench press, and barbell row. These are all excellent for building muscle. If your goal is to tone muscle, the place to start is building muscle.
As stated, you cannot tone muscle, but you can reduce the layer of fat over your muscles to show off your success at building muscle and give your body a toned look. Most people want to tone muscles in the ab area; men in particular are keen to have a “six pack.” The key to showing your abs is to have a body fat percentage of around 10%. Most people have body fat ranges between 15 and 24%, so you may have some major work to do in this area.
To get the look you think of when you want to tone muscle, one of the first things you should do is reduce your caloric intake. By cutting back your daily calories by 300, you should notice some real difference in your body fat percentage, and you can repeat this every two or three weeks. So while you can’t tone muscle, you can adjust your diet to help reduce fat.
However, the most important thing you can do to tone muscle, or rather reduce the fat layer, is cardio exercise. Sprints and jogging are good cardio exercises, and there is some research indicating that sprints may actually be better for burning fat than exercises.
If you are building muscle and burning fat consistently, you will tone muscle, or rather look toned, which is the goal of muscle toning in the first place. Your muscles will look great and people will admire your fitness. You will be proud of your appearance and the work you’ve put in to “tone muscle,” even though you know there’s more to it than that. |
